Before You Begin

Make sure you have the following ready:

  • A working 2.4GHz or 5GHz WiFi network

  • Your existing router’s WiFi name (SSID) and password

Method 1: Set Up Linksys RE7000 via WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)

This method is the quickest and easiest, provided your router has a WPS button (usually marked with a circular arrow symbol).

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Plug the RE7000 into a power outlet near your router.

  2. Wait for the LED on the front to start blinking green (this takes about a minute).

  3. Press the WPS button on your router.

  4. Within 2 minutes, press the WPS button on the RE7000.

  5. Wait and check the LED light on the extender:

    • Solid Green = Successfully connected

    • Blinking Amber = Connection failed – try the steps again

After successful setup:

  • Unplug the extender and move it halfway between your router and the area with weak WiFi.

  • Connect your devices to the new extended network.

Method 2: Set Up Linksys RE7000 via Web Browser

If your router doesn’t support WPS or you prefer a manual setup, follow these steps:

  1. Plug the RE7000 into a wall outlet and power it on.

  2. Wait for the LED to turn solid green.

  3. On your computer or laptop, open the WiFi settings and connect to the network called:
    LINKSYS EXTENDER SETUP – XXX

  4. Enter the default password if prompted and click Connect.

  5. Open a web browser and go to:
    http://extender.linksys.com or http://192.168.1.1

  6. The Welcome to Setup screen will appear.

  7. Follow the on-screen prompts, which will guide you to:

    • Secure your extended network with a password

    • Choose between Extender or Access Point mode

    • Name your extended network

    • Select the connection speed and settings

Once done, you’ll have a fast, extended internet connection across your home.
